ABOUT ERIC

I’m most useful before the brief is settled. That’s when design changes the work.

I’ve spent 12+ years moving from visual and brand work into digital products. Today I lead projects that start out unclear and bring them all the way to launch.

I use research and working prototypes to help product, engineering, content, and analytics reach a decision while there is still room to change course.

Good design should make the product better and leave the team with a clearer way to make the next decision.

WHY I WORK ACROSS DISCIPLINES

Different problems needdifferent design muscles.

The project determines the method. Some need research and framing; others need interaction design, information architecture, experimentation, or a working prototype.

  • Product strategy
  • Product discovery
  • Information architecture
  • Experience systems
  • Personalization
  • Interaction design
  • Accessibility
  • Design critique
  • Growth experimentation

WHAT TEAMMATES CAN EXPECT

Serious about the outcome.Straightforward about the process.Easy to work with.

01

I find the decision that is holding the team up.

I make the unknowns and tradeoffs visible so the team can decide what to do next.

02

I make the idea concrete early.

A working flow gives the team something specific to challenge, improve, and commit to.

03

I use critique to strengthen the work.

I bring a point of view and expect it to improve through critique. Good feedback changes both the decision and the design.

04

I build systems teams can adopt.

Components and rules matter when teams can use them without me and the work gets better as a result.

05

I stay through implementation and learning.

I stay close to product, content, analytics, and engineering through QA, launch, and the first rounds of learning.
